PRECAST & PRESTRESSED CONCRETE
Product overview
Bridge Planks are available in a number of depths and are usually detailed in 48” modules. Bridge plank structures are popular in low lying areas of Hawaii due to a combination of road elevation and flood clearance constraints. Voided slabs should be considered for deeper plank sections. The shear key is standardized for all depth sections based on AASHTO/PCI details and should be adopted if possible.
Key specifications

| Shear key | Standardized AASHTO / PCI detail | Common detail across depths |
| Possible strand layout | Bottom row with subsequent rows at 2 in spacing | Final prestressing by project design |
Design & detailing notes
- The BP drawing provides section properties for each listed depth, including area, moment of inertia and unit weight.
- Voided planks should be considered for deeper sections.
- Bottom strand position is governed by cover, reinforcing and tolerance requirements.
- For non-standard widths, sections or alternate prestressing options, consult GPRM.
- Similar sections are also used for wharf deck units, as noted in the source drawing.
